The Ladies’ European Tour had its most successful year in 2005 with the largest prize fund in its history. This has been exceeded in 2006 as a result of sponsors wanting to cash in on the ever-increasing popularity of the game and this year there are 19 events in 15 different countries.
Players’ such as Danielle Masters from England, Australian Anna Rawson, German Anja Monke, Scotland’s Lynn Kenny and Spaniard Marta Prieto were the epitome of golf fashion and glamour and were attracting much media attention.
Following the Evian Masters, the world’s finest women golfers descend on the UK as three professional tournaments take place on British shores. It all starts with the season’s final major championship: the Weetabix Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes from August 3 to 6, which carries a prize fund of £1.05 million. This is probably the third most prestigious tournament in women’s golf, after the US Women’s Open and The Solheim Cup, (the biennial women’s team event equivalent to the men’s Ryder Cup).
